Our Story

A Journey of Bengal Cats and Music

Founder with Bengal cat

Bengal Music Cats began with a simple observation: our Bengal cats responded uniquely to different genres of music.

We have been raising healthy, gorgeous Bengal cats and kittens since 2016! Bengal Music Cats Cattery is a small in-home TICA registered cattery operated by passionate hobby breeders located in the Inland Northwest in Spokane Washington, USA. What started as a passion project has grown into a specialized hobby breeding program known for exceptional cats with unique personalities shaped by their musical environment.

It is well known that cats move in a special way by melodies they heard and enjoyed as kittens. Our Bengals are well exposed to music, and we believe that it's still possible, similarly to humans, that cats form their strongest bonds with humans when they are exposed to music during their growing period of development.

We invest in our Bengals to bring in new bloodlines ensuring great genetics behind our program. We health test all of our lines for genetic diseases such as PK and PRA, maintaining the highest standards of care for every cat in our cattery.

Our Philosophy

Musical Bond

We believe that exposure to certain types of music may add to cats' sense of comfort and trust in humans. As in humans, when our favorite songs from childhood attract us much later in life, cats and kittens develop a sense of comfort and relaxation. Often, cats fall asleep after a few minutes of a common music tune.

Family Connection

We love the idea of incorporating music in our active lifestyle that connects us to our fur animal friends! We are creative, curious and patient problem solvers who anticipate the future needs of our fur members of Bengal Music Cats Family.

Bengal Beauty

We love Bengals for their striking appearance, the Leopard look and athletic build. We are impressed with their curious, intelligent and friendly personalities, and especially with their richly colored fur coat and a highly contrasted pattern of different size of rosettes.

Bengal Cats FAQ

How can you keep your Bengal kitten entertained, and is it beneficial for a Bengal kitten to have a companion?

Having a companion for your Bengal cat can be a lot easier on the owner and more fun for both of you! Just make sure to choose a cat with a similar energy level; it doesn’t have to be a Bengal; just a playful cat. To keep your feline friend happy and entertained, make sure they have plenty of enrichment, like a cat wheel and vertical space. Cats love to climb and run, so plan on spending some time each day playing with your kittens. Wand bird-type toys are great because they not only help them burn off some of their energy, but they also give you a chance to bond with your busy little felines.

How to introduce a kitten to a family with a dog?

Begin by allowing them to become familiar with each other’s scents by swapping bedding or toys. Introduce them visually through a barrier, such as a baby gate or screen door, enabling them to see and smell each other without direct contact. Supervise all initial face-to-face interactions closely, ensuring the dog is on a leash and rewarding both animals for calm behavior. Keep the initial meetings brief and gradually extend their duration as the animals become more comfortable with one another.

How can I help the kitten adapt to its new home environment?

Congratulations on bringing your adorable furry companion home! We have some fantastic recommendations for you. We feed our kittens and cats with Royal Canin wet and dry food twice a day. Kittens will have access to dry food throughout the day. We’ll provide you with a Royal Canin Kitten Kit, which includes a small bag of dry food and a can of wet food. We recommend keeping the kitten in a guest room for a few days to allow it to adjust to its new home and owner. Once it feels comfortable, you can introduce it to the rest of the house. You can use a flying toy to walk the kitten around the house, or alternatively, hold it in your arms while walking around so it feels safe and comfortable getting to know its new environment. Kittens love toys and soft, fluffy blankets to sleep on the couch. We use cat litter from Costco.

Are Bengal cats are hypoallergenic?

One of the most frequent questions we get from people is whether or not Bengal cats are hypoallergenic? Yes, Bengal cats are hypoallergenic. However, to fully understand this, it’s important to clarify that “hypoallergenic” doesn’t mean allergy-free; it simply means “relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.” Compared to other cat breeds, Bengal cats are less likely to trigger allergic reactions in people. Here’s why: The most common cat allergen is a protein found in cat saliva, skin cells, and urine called Fel d 1. This protein enters the air through cat hair and dander. More people tend to react to Fel d 1 than to dog allergens because of its weight. Fel d 1 is incredibly light, staying airborne longer and more likely to enter the lungs when someone with an allergy enters a room with cats (Konkel). Additionally, it’s incredibly sticky, so once it lands on surfaces, it doesn’t go away. Some Oriental breeds produce less Fel d 1, but the Bengal is not one of those cats. However, if someone is lightly sensitive to Fel d 1 but not heavily susceptible, they may be able to tolerate Bengal cats. Bengal cats are single-coated, which means they have less fur than double-coated cats. Consequently, they shed less than some other breeds, meaning the protein has fewer hairs to attach to and enter the air. Additionally, some Bengals have retained a coat quality known as pelted, which has extremely short and soft rabbit-like fur. This sleek coat contributes to its cleanliness and reduces the Bengal’s need to groom itself. Finally, some Bengal cats have glitter, which creates a silky texture to their hair strands. The Fel d 1 can’t stick to glittered hair as easily as it can stick to non-glittered hair. With short, silky hairs, less saliva spreads onto the Bengal’s coat, and less hair and dander with Fel d 1 attached to it is released into the air.
